26TH ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL OF ROSES

10:00AM “Rooting Made Easy” - Mike Shoup & The Texas Rose Rustlers Mike and The Texas Rose Rustlers will hold a workshop on propagating your own roses. There will be a “cutting exchange” so you can expand your rose collection. These very knowledgeable folks will be available to help you identify those “mystery roses” from your home garden! Mike is, of course, the owner of The Antique Rose Emporium.
12:30PM “This Bulb’s for You” – Robbi Will Robbi Will gives us her picks for best bulbs for our hot southern climate. These plant them, forget them and have more next year plants are always a favorite in our gardens. Robbi is one of our most knowledgeable staff members in the areas of natives, perennials and bulbs.
2:00pm “Give Me Color & Make It Perennial” - Margaret Cherry, Abbott-Ipco This lecture will include longtime favorites as well as new plant introductions chosen for their success in our Texas gardens. Margaret evaluates hundreds of perennials for one of the world’s largest plant distributors.

10:00AM “On the Trail of Trialed Roses” – Pam Smith Pam is the curator for the Rose Gardens of Farmer’s Branch. She oversees the candidates for “American Garden Rose Society Selections” recognition as well as Earthkind trials. Pam will let us in on what new roses are challengers to “Knock-Out” roses. Pam has one of the largest and most beautiful trial gardens in Texas. See what’s up and coming in new roses.
11:30AM “Rose Rosette Disease” – David Byrne Dr. David Byrne, TAMU Rose Breeding Foundation, will discuss the dreaded Rose Rosette disease that is causing so much concern among rosarians. Dr. Byrne will answer questions and remove some of the mystery and panic about this rose affliction. Dr. Byrne is the leading authority on rose rosette as well as the holder of the Bayse Chair in Rose Breeding at Texas A&M.
1:30PM “Lone Star Gardening” – Neil Sperry Beloved radio host, author and champion for Texas gardening, Neil Sperry, will introduce his new book Lone Star Gardening. Come benefit from Neil’s accurate, practical and passionate advice. He will, of course, sign a copy for you after the presentation. Neil’s book and radio program have put Texas gardening on the map. Texas is a whole other world and Neil tailors his garden advice to ‘our world’.
3:00PM Beer, Where Microbes Rule – Randy Shoup Randy will enlighten us on this flourishing industry and how microbes inherent in the life of healthy soil, the flavoring of cheeses, the diversity of mushrooms and taste of beer are the secret ingredient. Randy has successfully merged his vocation, Chemical Engineer, with his passion - brewing. The successful result is something we can all enjoy. *Tasting to follow on the Plaza.
